my subconscious made me do it

You may not know this about me, but I doodle. I doodle a lot. Few things in this world are as satisfying to me as ink on paper. In doodles, every line is permanent and there are no mistakes. There is no intention or message behind a doodle–otherwise, it would be an illustration. The first few lines and squiggles start to define a form and the rest fall into place after that.

I recently started a blog to archive my doodles, rather than just tossing them straight into the recycle bin as I have for most of my life. You can check it out here: http://doodlingatwork.blogspot.com. Add it to your RSS reader and let my endless pen wanderings bring a pinch of whimsy into your daily Internetting.

What's really funny is that some of those doodles I actually recognized because I watched you work on them in meetings. Such as my kick-off meetings! :-)

Actually, I've heard that doodling in meetings or on calls helps people concentrate better especially if the subject matter is boring because it keeps your right brain occupied.

If you see me doodle during your
meetings, please know that I am still paying attention to what is being said, though I realize now that it may not appear that way to everyone. I doodled through my entire school career and was an excellent student. I have many years of experience listening, understanding and squiggling at the same time.

When I have a pen and note paper in my hand, a doodle of some kind is almost a certainty.
