This is my new lathe.

She is hungry. Hungry for wood. Hungry for attention. She's three times bigger than my last lathe. More power. More features. More possibilities. The first two things I've tried to feed her -- a piece of Purple Heart and then a piece of Buckeye Maple -- didn't go too well. Very strong woods. Dusty. Not good for eating. Next up: a piece of cherry I found on the side of the road. Smells nice when you cut it.

I don't like to finish things all at once. Prefer to get green wood, rough out a shape, let it dry (1 inch per year), then go back and finish it. Sometimes I finish green bowls just to see how they'll warp. No so much though.

Always turning new wood. Still seeing how each kind reacts to the steel and the curves. They all bend different. They all move in their own way. Keeps me off the street. Out of the bars. Happy.

Stay tuned.
